Grand Bahama Shipyard Ltd is recruiting a Marine Buyer.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Research best pricing for international & local purchases
- Confer with vendors regarding specs, pricing, availability and delivery
- Engage with subcontractors and suppliers to negotiate best value on products and services, creating purchase orders for the same
- Ensure supplier compliance with Company Quality Manual
- Source new suppliers
- Review bid proposals and negotiate contracts
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships at all levels
- Maintain necessary inventory levels to meet client requirements
- Ensure timely receipt of materials and services
- Take corrective action on issues regarding defective or unacceptable goods and services
- Data input (ACCPAC system)
- Work hours as required to ensure deadlines are adequately managed; may require extended duties at times as agreed with the Manager
- Promote the company in a positive and ethical manner
- To share and promote GBSL Company Values
- Adherence to all Company Policies and Procedures
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum Diploma/Degree in Marine/Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or equivalent
- International Purchasing Standard Certification
- 10 years of relevant experience as a Marine Buyer
- Proven experience with marine operations and strong knowledge of marine equipment Purchasing experience in the following commodities: Electrical, Mechanical, Steel and Profiles, Pipe and Fittings, Personal Protective Equipment, Pumps, Safety Equipment, Plant, Subcontracting, Rental of Tugs and Marine Vessels
- Previous work experience with Senior/Executive in an industrial, multi-national company
- Materials requisition processing knowledge
- Thorough working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
- Working knowledge of ACCPAC/Ariba/Infor.
- Conversant with materials standards, class and certifications.
- Ability to process data with accuracy and efficiency
- Must be flexible and able to cope with emergency situations
- Team oriented with problem solving and decision-making aptitude
- Resourceful and ethical in dealing with vendors
- Ability to plan, multi-task, manage time, and meet deadlines through effective organization and prioritization of work, while working on several projects simultaneously
- Competent leadership skills and ability to work with limited supervision with direct responsibility for certain areas in Purchasing functions
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent telephone etiquette and the ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders
