DOCK MASTER TRAINEE

A vacancy exists within the Marine Dock Operations Department for a Dock Master Trainee. The Dock Master Trainee will assist Dock Masters in ensuring the docks remain safe, operational, and well-maintained.

 

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Daily inspection of dock wingwall for safety hazards and cleanliness, weekly inspections of dock safety equipment
• Ensure BMA & SOLAS checklist are in compliance and adhered to at all times on the dock
• Upkeep of Marine Department maintenance, breakdowns and repairs records along with the dock crew
• Check and maintain updated spare parts, oils and fuel filters records for all docks.
• Ensure all gangways and associated equipment are properly maintained, fully operational, tested and ready for use
• Liaise with the H&S Department to ensure that all dock maintenance activities are being worked on in a safe manner
• Work closely with the Marine Dock Master on dock repairs and maintenance
• Support Dock Masters with coordinating with supervision of all trades that assist with dock repairs to ensure that all activities are being progressed in a time and efficient manner
• Oversee the movement of materials and manpower on repair job and report progress to Dock Master
• Monitor and report the Dock crew attendance

 

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS REQUIRED:
• Minimum of four (4) years’ experience in ship repair, ship building and/or ship conversions, gained from working in shipyards or shipyard apprentice program
• Demonstrate the ability to lead personnel safely in an industrial/maritime environment
• Ability to demonstrate time management skills and adherence to production schedule and associated deadlines
• Demonstrate problem-solving skills in marine ops environment
• Proficiency in using MS Office Suite of Programs (Excel, Word, Outlook)
• Basic working knowledge of Maritime Regulatory Authorities
• Good written and oral communication skills
• Adherence to all Company Policies and Procedures
• Basic STCW CERTIFICATION Preferred
• Basic First Aid Certification preferred
